The Agriwatch Agri Commodities Index declined marginally by 0.13% to 102.92 during the week ended Dec 26, 2015 from 103.05 during the previous week. The base for the Index is 2014 (= 100).
Gains in Cereals (0.43%), Fibres (3.27%) and Other Non-Food Articles (3.33%) were negated by significant declines in Pulses (-3.61%) and Vegetables (4.42%) during the week. The other weekly gainers were Oilseeds (1.04%) and Sugar, gur, khandsari (0.33%) while the other declining groups were Condiments & Spices (-1.28%) and Edible Oils (-0.05%).
The Index closed the year with a gain of 2.92%, indicating that overall agri-prices remained largely subdued during the year. However the individual groups indicate wide variance. The year saw the Pulses Index rise 70.2%, followed by Spices (36.7%), Oilseeds (16.8%) and Edible Oils (3.2%). However these were almost completely offset by falls in the Vegetables Index (-32.4%), Other Non-Food Articles (-30%), Fibres (-7.4%), Cereals (-7.4%) and Sweeteners (-2.3%)
