Prospects Of Higher Kharif Pulses Production Would Help To Match Govt.'s Target Of 25.6 MMT For 2020-21

 
With early start of monsoon this year and good rains fall up to now and hope for better rains in Aug and Sep have increased hope for bumper pulses production this year.Kharif area under pulses  is running ahead by 32.33 %.Overall area seems toincrease by 10 to 15 % by the end of kharif sowing season.Farmers are active  with full capacity. The government has set a target of 25.6 million tonnes of pulses production this year. This target is 11.2 percent more than the estimated output  last year.Overall  pulses area  so far is up by 32%.Tur ,Urad and Moong  sowing are up by 38,43 and 31% so far.Under prevailing condition production of pulses is likely tomatch govt.'s target.
 
India’s annual requirement of pulses stands at 25-26million tonnes. Pluses are mainly produced in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. In these states, good rains helped to increase the  production.The current Kharif season accounts for about 30 percent of whole pulses production in the country.
