Hungary imports maize from Ukraine upon drought

As per sources, since a severe drought damaged a big portion of its domestic crop in the previous year, Hungary has imported around 1 million tonnes of maize, or nearly a quarter of its annual needs, primarily from Ukraine.  Hungary exports maize regularly, but this year's yield will be the smallest since the 1970s. Hungary will produce between 2.8 and 3.6 million tonnes of maize, although the nation requires 4.5 million tonnes annually. The majority of that is used by firms that produce animal feed, high fructose corn syrup, and bioethanol. Hungary produced 6.5 million tonnes of maize last year.
