Hungary to become net importer of maize this season

As per reports, due to this year's drought, Hungary, a significant grain producer, may end up becoming a net importer of maize this season. The expected maize yield in 2022 will be around 3 million tonnes, down from the average harvest of 7 to 9 million tonnes. With few imports, Hungary typically exports 3 million to 4 million tonnes. Due to the severe drought, the 2022–2023 economic year has put Europe and Hungary in an exceptionally challenging situation on the grains market.
