Indonesia Sends the World Into A Tailspin With A Ban On CPO Exports

Indonesia’s Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto cleared in a media briefing on 27th April, cleared that Indonesia has widened its export ban and has included Crude Palm Oil in its new export policy. Indonesia’s flip-flops in export ban policy have sent the global prices in turmoil. India’s Yearly palm oil imports amounts to 8 million metric tonne (MMT). As India is already facing edible oil shortfall due to Sunflower oil shortages, low Palm oil availability is likely to inflate the prices of edible oil basket. Malaysia’s annual palm oil production is 18-20 MMT, which would make it unable to fulfill the global palm oil demand including India’s.
